Badger Hair

Badger hair is one of the most valuable and expensive hair types used for the production of paintbrushes. The hairs are slightly wavy and snappy. They are softer and more flexible than natural bristles. The beautiful markings are specific for badger hair which is thickest at the point and relatively thin at the root. This gives badger hair brushes their distinctive “bushy” appearance. The most traditional brush types made from badger hair are the mottler, fan brush, and softener brushes. Badger hair paintbrushes are very popular with oil painters but can also be used for watercolor and gouache painting.
